Type of the activity: Capacity Building (Training or Workshop). Teaching and develop knowledge, skills and techniques in a particular field. While training can have any form, workshops are more formal and also include exchange of information between participants.

General description:

We MedSIN-Sudan SCOPH National team are proposing to celebrate world TB day 2019 as workshop divided into 2 session : introductory session give an overview about the disease and simulation aiming to introduce the participants to the global epidemics.

The target population is 40 medical students and the activity will take place on 30/3//2019 in Khartoum.

Problem statement:

The tuberculosis-related mortality rate is estimated at 25 per 100 000 population. A total of 20,181 detected tuberculosis cases were reported in 2013, of which 5980 (30%) were new sputum smear-positive cases. The treatment success rate of new and relapsed cases registered in 2012 was 75.0%. Drug-resistant tuberculosis is estimated at 1.9% among new cases and 20.0% among previously treated cases.

Objectives and indicators of success:

1.Increase the awareness of 40 medical students regarding the definition of TB, signs and symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.

Indicator of success: 70% of theparticipants will be knowledgeable about TB.

2.Increase the awareness of 40 medical students regarding the situation of TB in sudan and the challenges.

Indicator of success: 70% of the participants will be updates about TB status in Sudan.

3.Empower 40 medical students and come up with creative and new ideas to prevent and control TB in Khartoum.

Indicator of success: to come up with activity plan and organize it during the term.

4.Increase the awareness of 40 medical students regarding the epidemics, pandemics and endemics.

Indicator of success: 70% of the participants will be knowledgeable about those concepts.

5.Capacitate 40 medical students and increase the awareness regarding the global epidemics and how to tackle them.

Indicator of success: 70% of the participants will have a good background about the global epidemics

Methodology:

1.Introductory session:

Two hours session to introduce the participants to TB and current situation in Sudan using PowerPoint presentation and flipchart.

2.Global epidemic simulation:

Two hours simulation to make the participants live a global epidemic and see closely how the MOH, WHO, pharmaceutical companies, TV channels and the community act in such situation and how they can implement their agenda.

Plans for evaluation:

Pre and post evaluation forms.

Will be mandatory in order to get the certificate.
