Trauma has been dubbed the forgotten epidemic and the neglected disease of modern society. Trauma remains the most common cause of death for all individuals between the ages of 1 and 44 years and is the third most common cause of death regardless of age. It is also the leading cause of the years of productive life loss. Unintentional injuries account for over 110000 deaths per year, with the motor vehicle collisions accounting for over 40%. About 30 million injured patients are treated in emergency department per year. For these reasons trauma must be considered a major public health issue.
Target groups and beneficiaries:
Target group are medical student on exchange.
Directly benefit will have medical students who will learn a practice maneuver of
CPR, techniques of immobilization, approaching to injured person, etc. This is
especially important for students who prefer emergency departments, surgery, etc. Stay calm and react property in high pressure situations is the key point in all emergency situations.
Beside medical students, society also will have benefits. Because there are low
percent of first aid trained people, trained medical students can do a training for
non-medical population. On that way, sharing a knowledge in non-medical
population, we can make a big impact on society.
Objectives and indicators of success:
Specific: prepare medical student to act in adequate manner in emergency
Measurable: 50 medical students during 8 hours workshop in first aid topic
Assignable: students will be taught by first aid instructor
Realistic: 80% of students will learn adequate manner of CPR, immobilization
techniques, full body examination…
Time-related: Results will be achieved after fully completed first aid workshop
Indicators of objectives: make an emergency realistic scenario and evaluate how
students manage, number of participants, number of students
First, there is need to provide first aid instructors who will teach students on exchange. Also, before workshop it’s needed to provide a hall where workshop will maintain. Agenda (half hour theory, CPR 2-3 hours, 4 hours immobilization) and plan of immobilization techniques students will learn is something should be prepared in advance as well.
Plans for evaluation:
Pre-evaluation will be done by test with question about CPR, first aid, immobilization, etc. Also, before teaching them, student will try to do CPR and immobilization. After completing the workshop, the students will be given the same test and then we will make a comparison between before and after ending workshop. Also, after completing workshop, student will do a CPR and immobilization. So, there are 3 points of pre and post evaluation: test, CPR
