The exigency for non-communicable diseases awareness has increased dramatically in the past few years in Jordan. Thus, non-communicable diseases campaign is designed to help educate the community and medical students, in specific, about the most common non-communicable diseases. This project is under the Standing Committee On Public Health (SCOPH) and it revolves around two principles. First, it aims to teach the medical students about non-communicable diseases including: symptoms, risk factors, staging, and treatment through a series of professional training sessions. Second, letting those well-trained medical students help spread awareness of those diseases and the importance of early detection and regular checkups in our community by holding maximum number of awareness events and medical days in universities, schools, public gardens and streets and malls.
A non-communicable disease (NCD) is a medical condition or disease that is not caused by infectious agents. NCDs can refer to chronic diseases which last for long periods of time and progress slowly.
The diseases that we’ll be raising awareness on are the following:

Jordan, as in many middle-income countries, has witnessed a demographic change. In 2007, the infant mortality rate decreased to 19 per 1,000 live births, and life expectancy increased for men (71.6 y) and women (74.4 y). Jordan is also undergoing an epidemiologic transition; the burden of infectious diseases has lessened, but the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) has increased. NCDs are the leading cause of death in Jordan.

Educated medical students that have the ability to spread awareness about NCDs during our campaign, and increased awareness about healthy lifestyle through multiple free medical days including awareness and screening events .
