Name of the activity: You deserve better
Country/NMO: Venezuela (FEVESOCEM)
Program: Gender Based Violence
Contact information: [email protected]
Type of the activity: Campaign. Combination of education and advocacy. Campaigns create awareness in society about a certain topic (education aspect) and try to funnel this awareness into pressure on the decision makers to adapt policies accordingly (advocacy aspect).
Digital campaign: The digital campaign consists in recording a video in the native language of the NMO saying “Today is the international day of women, and you deserve the best” A short and short message, but that means a lot.
Field work: We will place a giant paper in a busy place in the cities where the activity will be replicated. We will invite both men and women to leave a message to “this person” (alluding to a photograph that will be shown to them of a woman). After that, photos of abused women will be shown (photographic project that will be developed and provided to all NMOs), offensive and demeaning messages directed at their partners will also be shown and now they will be asked again what they would say to this specific woman, in order to make the problem visible, being something more frequent of what it seems.
Studies carried out by the WHO, taking a sample of 24,000 “from 13% to 61% indicated that they had suffered physical violence perpetrated by their partner; 4% to 49% reported that they had been victims of serious physical violence ; 6% to 59% indicated that at some point in their lives they suffered sexual violence perpetrated by their partner; and 20% to 75% reported that, in the course of their life, they had suffered one or more acts of emotional abuse perpetrated by their partner. “
